A HOUSE FOR A WOMAN WITH AN UMBRELLA
Rain does remind us of something much needed, these days.
Man / woman and / vs. Nature / Cosmos.
The asphalt of man / woman and the rain pouring from above.
And then the umbrella, vulnerable protection, between earth and sky.
A day in New York City, probably Manhattan.
A woman, dressed decently, either a student, a professor or a business woman.
A “weak” umbrella and the rain.
But there is poetry in this picture, published by Yahoo News, about the rainy days at the beginning of October, 2010.
We ask you to design a house for this woman, under the umbrella.
Tall, sinuous, elegant, sober, “urbane,” long hair and high heels.
One thinks of the Ukiyo-e woodcuts, with people under the rain.
One thinks of the need of a home, at the beginning of Fall, on a rainy day.
One thinks of the fragility of human life, under a cloudy sky, concretely or metaphorically.
One also thinks of the beauty of life, urban or otherwise.
Of course, not anyone is equally beautiful under an umbrella.
But everyone shares the same vulnerability, vis-à-vis the vagaries (poetical or not) of life.
The rain does not discriminate.
Beautiful or not, the one under an umbrella is always fragile.
DESIGN THE HOUSE OF FRAGILITY, UNDER A CLOUDY SKY.
