Concept Statement

This proposal for a façade for San Lorenzo consists of the following elements

1. The façade is based on a Gothic façade ornamented with carved human figures, except in this case, the human figures are real people who are given access to the façade by means of a spiral stair contained within an adjacent campanile.

2. The façade is a thick façade, it has dimension and depth.  It will be about 12 feet from front to back (approx. 4 meters).  The façade will be made of steel and concrete and will consist of three concrete platforms cantilevered from the existing building. 

3. People will walk through the façade stopping to meditate at the twelve stations of the cross that will be presented on each of the three platforms.  The stations will be made of mosaics.

4. The platforms will have colored glass suspended from the front facing the piazza.  The glass will be moveable and can change for the various liturgical seasons.
